Going Bananas

I came back from a run today and while unpacking my goodie bag, which contained an isotonic drink, mineral water, apples and bananas, my parents warned me not to keep the bananas in the fridge. I could leave the apples and the drinks in the fridge but not the bananas, which made me wonder why....

Here's some explanations from my parents and relatives: 
1. Bananas in the fridge will rot faster.
2. Bananas in the fridge will produce higher sugar content and thus cause diabetics.
3. Don't know, nobody leave bananas in the fridge, so don't do it!!!

Still wondering why.... any thoughts?
